Our Mission

Our mission is to build a better community by feeding the hungry in St. Joseph.

Hunger has many faces - the working poor, women and children, senior citizens, veterans, and the homeless.

Our History

Under the leadership of Mary T. Cargill, The Open Door Food Kitchen became a reality in 1984. Our building at 5th and Edmond Street in Downtown St. Joseph served us well for many years.

Our Present

We are enjoying our second year of being in a new facility at 615 S. 8th Street. We continue to serve lunch to our patrons seven days a week, 365 days a year. We are currently serving 250-325 hot, nutritious meals every single day.

Our Future

We will continue our mission of feeding the hungry in St. Joseph as long as there is a need. This is only made possible with your help. It is up to all of us to make a difference in our community. Visit our “Get Involved” page to partner with us.
